Minutes to the Meeting of
March 20, 2008
President John DiGirolomo, CHFM, SASHE called the meeting to order on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at the Galloping Hill Inn, Union, New Jersey, commencing at 6:03 p.m. John led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Self-introductions were made by all in attendance.

The sponsors for this evening’s meeting were Diversified Fixtures and ECO Systems.
EDUCATIONAL SESSION TOPIC
The educational session was presented by Special Agent Lizabeth Lehrkamp of the FBI. The topic of discussion was “Cyber Crime”. There was a Power Point Presentation with a question and answer session following.
President John DiGirolomo thanked Special Agent Lizabeth Lehrkamp and representatives of Diversified Fixtures and ECO systems.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
John DiGirolomo, CFM, SASHE opened by stating he was very pleased and proud to announce that two members of the society have achieved their Certifications as Healthcare Facility Managers; Brian Akers and Frank Conti were recognized by the group for this achievement.
PRESIDENT-ELECT’S REPORT
Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE informed the group that this years all day seminar is scheduled for Thursday October 16th 2008, centering on life safety with the key speaker being Mr. George Mills. Ben asked everyone to be mindful of the save-the-date reminder which would be going out shortly.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Bill Anderson, FASHE CHFM presented a synapses of the current budget, the organization is still solvent.
Bill reminded everyone that there are still dues pending from many members, Bill asked everyone who hasn’t already paid to please come current with their dues so he doesn’t have to chase anyone around.
SECRETARYS REPORT
Edward Fay informed all in attendance other than just meeting reminders there is often a lot of valuable information being emailed out from the society and many members have not updated their personal information. Ed explained how items continue to bounce back and members are missing out of this data.
ADVOCACY
Robert Roop, PE reminded everyone about the Joint Commission’s new standard improvement initiatives, including the Emergency Management being moved away from Environment of Care, Robert urged everyone to take advantage of the public comment period until April 22.
EAB
Hank Schurman explained some of the items that were discussed recently at the engineering advisory board, including recent hospital budget cuts and reductions in charity care, the 2010 AIA guidelines are out for public comment and that the New Jersey Hospital Association is interested in looking for a training program for healthcare facility management employees.
GOLF OUTTING
Amy DiPaolo reminded everyone that this years golf outing would once again be held at Fox Hollow Country Club on Tuesday June 3rd 2008 and that the save the date reminded would be going out next month.

John Schliewenz was unable to attend but Peter Applemann informed everyone that the news letter will be out next week.
PUBLIC RELATIONS

MEMBERSHIP
Peter Applemann presented 3 new members for consideration. They are:
á Danielle Woletz – Bergen Regional Medical Center
á Joseph Suchanek – Bergen Regional Medical Center
á Steve Botbyl – RSC Architects (Move Up Program)
All were voted in unanimously
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Frank Keller informed the group that the society was successful in working with a charity organization called HEIFER International that works to end world hunger while caring for the earth. Frank explained how the society helped purchase animals that will continue to yield gifts by feeding the family through milk or eggs and it’s off spring.
The membership was also informed that Frank had been contacted by the organization called Tooling Around The Town who the society has worked with before, asking if we could assist with a 49 yo man in the Wood Bridge area who has suffered two strokes and when completed with therapy would be returning home to a non ADA compliant house. Frank told the group that the town and the organization would assist with permits but architects would be needed for designs as well as volunteers to help build ramps, widen doors etc... and that Frank would be visiting the site and would report back.
