Minutes to the Meeting of
June 19th, 2008
President Elect Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE called the meeting to order on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Galloping Hill Inn, Union, New Jersey, commencing at 6:00 p.m. Ben led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Self-introductions were made by all in attendance.

EDUCATIONAL SESSION TOPIC
The educational session was presented by Mr. Dale Woodin, CHFM, FASHE Executive Director for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering. The topic of discussion was “ASHE” and what parent organization can do for its members. There was a Power Point Presentation along with a trivia question and answer session following regarding healthcare regulatory requirements.
President Elect Ben DiFranco thanked Mr. Woodin and representatives of Carpet Et Cetera.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Filling for President John DiGirolomo CHFM, SASHE, President Elect Ben DiFranco CHFM, SASHE informed the membership that the annual ASHE conference & trade show would be taking place next month in Washington DC and asked encouraged the membership to make an effort to attend to take advantage of the educational topics and to view some of latest updates in the hospital engineering technology.
PRESIDENT-ELECT’S REPORT
Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE let the membership know that the following the summer break the remaining educational topics had been selected completing the calendar, Ben let everyone know that the International Facility Management Association would be holding a joint education conference as part of Septembers meeting. Dale Woodin let everyone know that he had seen the IFMA program and it was excellent.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Bill Anderson, FASHE CHFM presented the following synapses of the budget.
Beginning Balance: $70,824.29
Disbursements: $20,868.44
Deposits: $34,702.50
Ending Balance: $85,417.64
The organization is solvent.
SECRETARYS REPORT
Edward Fay requested any member who has not been receiving the regular email updates or who has had a change in the information to please either see him or log onto the HFMSNJ website and to please make the changes.
ADVOCACY
Robert Roop, PE asked the membership for items that they feel is worthy of conducting an advocacy campaign on to please contact him with information.
EAB
Hank Schurman explained to the group that at the last EAB meeting the discussion focused around the requirements of meeting the latest changes in the Emergency Management Standards, Hank explained that he is hearing from facility who have recently gone through survey that you should expect not only staff to be questioned but possible a table top exercise be conducted during a survey.
GOLF OUTTING
In Amy DiPaolo’s absence Bill Anderson, CHFM, FASHE let everyone know that the golf outing was a success and thanked everyone for their support and participation.
NEWSLETTER
John Schliewenz announced to the membership that for the next news letter would like to a spot light focusing on a particular hospitals engineering department. John asked anyone with information or ideas to please contact him.

SOCIAL JUSTICE
Frank Keller read to the group from a thank you letter received from a company called HEIFER International that works to end world hunger while caring for the earth. Frank explained how the HFMSNJ gave a financial gift to purchase animals that get donated and continue to yield gifts by feeding the family through milk or eggs and it’s off spring.
Frank Keller gave the membership a follow up on the “Tooling around the town” home renovation project, Frank explained how the architects drawings were completed and through assistance with other members the required permits were being pulled but that a NJ licensed plumber was still needed.
The next scheduled “Bridges Charity Run” to help feed and cloth the homeless is scheduled for Friday June 20th 2008.

AUDIT & NOMINATING COMMITTEE
George Thomas, CHFM, FASHE informed everyone that nominations were needed for Engineer of the year and to please contact him with nominees, Oscar Gonzalez, CHFM, SASHE also reminded the group that nominees would soon be needed for the positions of President Elect, Secretary and Treasure.

Oscar Gonzalez, CHFM, SASHE also let the organization know that the final touches were being put on this years Ad Journal.
OLD BUSINESS
No “Old Business” was discussed.
NEW BUSINESS
Representatives of E2Ecta informed the membership that PSE&G has extended the tax credits for solar projects and are offering to pay for as much as 50% of the total cost of the system.

President Elect Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE let everyone know ASHE has notified the organization and for the second year in a row we have received the Platinum Level of Affiliation.
