Minutes to the Meeting of

April 16, 2009

President Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE called the meeting to order on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Galloping Hill Inn, Union, New Jersey, commencing at 6:05 p.m. Sergeant-at-Arms Michael DePadova, CHFM, SASHE

Lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Self-introductions were made by all in attendance.

The sponsors for this evening's meeting were LaPorte Associates and Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies and Mielach.

EDUCATIONAL SESSION TOPIC

The educational session was presented by Michael Yarnell with OSHA. There was a Power Point Presentation on Healthcare 10 Mini OSHA, Respirator guidance with a question and answer session following.

President Ben DiFranco thanked Michael Yarnell and all the sponsors for contributing to the member's continuing education.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE announce to the group the importance of joining ASHE and the benefits being a member brings to your career. Provided general updates to the group. Update the members on the 60th Anniversary of the association and an evening at the Warwick Winery. Golf outing and re-writing the ASHE statement was discussed among the members. Ben asked the members to get as many to attend the all day seminar, contact your facilities Safety, PI, IC etc….to attend.

PRESIDENT-ELECT'S REPORT

Ed Fay announced that the 2009 educational calendar of events has been established but sponsorship was still needed. Education calendar is full for the reaming year and a registration flyer went to all members, Ed encourages the group to bring a guest. Ed also asked the group to contact him directly with any educational topics or additional training needs. Ed explained to the group that the dinner at Warwick is free up to one guest with a member and there is only a charge for extra guests.

TREASURER'S REPORT

Bill Anderson, CHFM, FASHE presented the following synapses of the 2009 budget:

Beginning Balance: $69,770.08

Disbursements: $5,125.00

Receipts: $9,125.00

Ending Balance: $73,550.00

The organization is solvent.

Bill also informed the membership to renew their memberships

SECRETARYS REPORT

Ed Fay filled in for Joe Glaski and informed all in attendance of the next Bridges run and Habitat for Humanity May 2nd.Joe requested from the group to contact him directly with any changes to members e-mail address or employment.

Joe Glaski also reminded everyone how important it was that members of the society join and become active with ASHE to help us continue to reach this goal.

ADVOCACY

Ben D filled in for Robert Roop, PE. And mentioned to the group on the process of the NFPA voting process.

EAB

Hank Schurman stated the meeting re: the group will meet next Wed and topics will include JC inspections vs. NJ inspections and an xls. Comparison will be developed.

GOLF OUTTING

Ben filled in for Amy DiPaolo reminded everyone to save the date for this years golf outing and it will be held once again at Fox Hollow Country Club on Tuesday June 2nd, 2009. Anyone looking to sponsor please contact Amy. Please sign up.

MEMBERSHIP

Peter Appelmann explained to the group on how the move up program works. Brian Banner and Gary Wondelich are new members.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Frank Keller mentioned that Habitat project will be sometime in April scheduled for a Saturday. The next Bridges run is June 12th. Additional information will be coming regarding "tooling around town"

WEBSITE

Ben D explained to the members that Kim Makay has chosen to go another direction in her career and Ben would be working with the group on all website updates.

AD JOURNAL

Oscar stated June 30th is the deadline for Ad Journal.

AUDIT - NOMINATING

John DiGirolomo will follow up on the audit process for 2009.

NJDOHSS, NFPA. TJC - UPDATES

OLD BUSINESS

No "Old Business" was discussed.

NEW BUSINESS

Joe Glaski informed the members regarding fire/smoke damper inspection frequencies that although TJC allows a 6 year cycle based on the changes in NFPA. The CMS at this time only recognizes a 4 year cycle, Joe e-mailed CMS and their response was to have the healthcare organization to obtain a waiver from CMS to go to the 6 year cycle. Robert Roop will help with NJ DOH advocacy to allow NJ Hospitals to go on the 6year cycle with a waiver letter from the NJ office.

ASHE

Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE reminded the members that there are applications to ASHE at every meeting and urged all members to enroll in ASHE.
