Minutes to the Meeting of
February 18th, 2010
President Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE called the meeting to order on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the Galloping Hill Inn, Union, New Jersey, commencing at 6:05 p.m. Sergeant-at-Arms Michael DePadova, CHFM, SASHE
Lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Self-introductions were made by all in attendance.

EDUCATIONAL SESSION TOPIC
The educational session was presented by Laura Brannen from Waste Management; she spoke on Sustainability in the Hospital Environment.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE announce to the group the importance of joining ASHE and the benefits being a member brings to your career. Provided ASHE updates to the members.
PRESIDENT-ELECT'S REPORT
Ed Fay announced that the 2010 educational calendar of events has been established but sponsorship was still needed. Ed told everyone to look forward to next month's session with Joe Santo from Premier Energy.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Bill Anderson, CHFM, FASHE presented the following synapses of the 2009 budget:
Beginning Balance: $57,683.20
Disbursements: $7,431.33
Receipts: $19,020.00
Ending Balance: $68,272.60
The organization is solvent.
Bill also informed the membership that the proposed 2010 operating budget has been submitted and accepted by the executive committee and the society has incorporated ASHE and HFMSNJ strategic plan.
SECRETARYS REPORT
Joe Glaski informed all in attendance that the time had come to assemble all the required documentation to submit to ASHE in order to achieve the Platinum Level of Affiliation. Kudos to the group that worked so hard in 2008 for this achievement, special thanks to Rick Ciullo and Ed Fay for their assistance in the collection of all documentation.
ASHE extended The Platinum Level documents from previous years and is required to be submitted by April 1st, 2010. Joe also announced to the members that for the all day training seminar we are looking to include a mini trade show to support our vendors. More information will be forthcoming on this.
Joe Glaski also reminded everyone how important it was that members of the society join and become active with ASHE to help us continue to reach this goal. 2009 Training certificates are available to members if needed for CEU.
ADVOCACY
Robert Roop, PE. Requested from the group any advocacy items should be submitted to him for follow up.

GOLF OUTTING
Ben reminded everyone to save the date for this years golf outing and it will be held once again at Fox Hollow Country Club on Tuesday June 8th, 2010. If you are interested in to sponsor or help out please contact the Golf Chair Amy DiPaolo.

Announced to the group to submit articles for the 2010 newsletter they also will be posted on the website.
PUBLIC RELATIONS

MEMBERSHIP
Rajh and Peter Appelmann made mentioned that he had received a few new member applications and would be processing them. He will make the announcement at next months meeting who the new members are. They will be presented with their HFMSNJ certificates.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Frank Keller mentioned that Habitat project will be sometime in June and scheduled for a Saturday. The next Bridges run is in March. Additional information will be coming regarding "tooling around town"

AD JOURNAL
Oscar stated that he is looking for more sponsors for the upcoming 2010 ad journal.
AUDIT - NOMINATING
John DiGirolomo will follow up on the audit process and report to members as audit is completed.
AWARDS - RECOGNITION
George Thomas and Hank Sherman will submit application for the 2009 Emerging Leader award.
HISTORIAN
John Schliewenz - Will be providing the group with further information on this new appointment. Additionally the information will be posted on the website.
NJDOHSS, NFPA. TJC - UPDATES
Joe Glaski stated that during a recent DOH survey a facility had been cited for not having ashtray located at a designated smoke area which is an exterior gazebo. Check these outside area's where patients are permitted to smoke and need to comply with LSC.

ASHE
Ben DiFranco, CHFM, SASHE reminded the members that there are applications to ASHE at every meeting and urged all members to enroll in ASHE. Provide Region 2 updates from ASHE meeting Ben attended.
